While living in California, I visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium a few times. When they created their seahorse display, I was so anxious to go and see it. That Is when I first saw a leafy sea dragon and I was fascinated!! What an interesting and amazing creature!

At the Damascus Open Studios Tour someone who was looking at my Honu painting asked me if I had a leafy sea dragon. I didn’t at the time, but now I do!

I had a fun time creating this peaceful little guy/gal. I get a sense of peace and calm when watching seahorses and sea dragons slowly float in the aquariums. I decided to give this one closed eyes to portray the calmness I feel when seeing them.
